Welcome to 2008 Season

Please pray for Quentin Smith, son of members Steve & Fran Smith. Quentin was recently involved in a paragliding accident in New Zealand and is in a very serious condition in a Christchurch hospital. They ask for prayer for all his family, friends and the medical staff treating Quentin.

2008 Winter / Spring Snow Season bookings now open - BOOK NOW - Vacancies now updated .

We continue to be excited by the opportunities that Southern Cross offers for recreation within Kosciuszko National Park. The term recreation is particularly apt as
we are experiencing a little of what awaits us as Christians when we are recreated with our Lord. The tangible friendship, hospitality, care and love that members and guests enjoy is why the lodge is there and what we have now shared over 45 years.

Southern Cross is appointing a Catering Manager and two Lodge Hosts for the 2008 snow season.
Jan Coggins has accepted the position of Catering Manager. See our News Page for more details.

Maximum bed numbers now 25. Southern Cross recently accepted a NPWS offer to increase our maximum bed numbers (including managers) from 20 to 25. See our News Page for more details.

15% discount on 5½, 6½ and 7½ day mountain passes for the 27/7 week. See our News Page for more details.

See Perisher Blue Media Release 13/2/2008 for exciting details of what's new in 2008 including a
new skier conveyor at Smiggin Holes and snow making all the way to Perisher Forester Quad Express mid-station.

Hopefully in 2008, Perisher lifts will be open till at least Monday 6 October and maybe longer.

In 2007, the Rev Lloyd Bennett was officially appointed by your directors as our honorary chaplain. Lloyd and Isabel look forward to catching up with many old and new friends this season.

See www.perisherblue.com.au for snow cams and full
details of all 2008 mountain passes and lessons (including 2½ hour group lessons and new 7 day passes)

2007 was a great snow season and was managed by Jono & Tracey Nash (photo on right).

In 2007, due to a combination of early season snow making and substantial natural snow falls, there was good skiing/boarding from the June LWE with all lifts open by early July right through to early September. The first lift opened on Friday 8 June and the last closed on Monday 1 October even though there was still plenty of snow.

Early Season Mountain Pass rates applied till 22 June and Spring Pass Rates applied from 9 September.

2006 was a relatively poor snow season which was saved and extended due to snowmaking. Although the snow depth was generally a little less that the previous worst season of 1982, there was no snow making back then.
There were early (2006) snow falls in April and May, with lifts opening early on Thursday 8 June and further falls in June. But there was never a big dump and Mt Perisher didn't open until after the July school holidays. Snow conditions and weather then remained quite good throughout August into early September. As snow cover then gradually diminised, lifts were progresively closed with the Village 8 Express on Front Valley closing at the end of Monday 2 October. Some snow remained for snow play and cross country skiing in the October school holidays.
2005 was a really good snow season with several lifts open until Monday 3 October 2005.

But our members and guests had a great time throughout the season and gives thanks for the ministry extended to us by our managers (see details on right and further below) as well as the various members who undertook the Group Hosting responsibilities week by week. It is a privilege to continue to be involved in ministry both within Southern Cross and also in the rest of the valley in conjunction with the Perisher Valley chaplains and other local Christians.

Early Season Mountain Pass prices applied up to 23 June. Full prices then applied from 24 June.

Various discounted Mountain Pass prices applied from 4 September.

SPRING SUPER SAVER 5 1/2 Day Mountain Passes were available effective from 10 September onwards to Southern Cross guests. Prices of $275 (adult) and $199 (child to age 14) included 3 @ 2 hour group lessons. They covered from 1pm on Sunday until 5.30pm lift close on Friday. These passes needed to be booked and pre-paid through Southern Cross by a few days beforehand - ask the booking officer for more details. Spring Season passes (including Skitube) were also available: $599 Adult, $329 Child (to year 12, age 18&under with ID).

2006 SNOW SEASON MANAGERS
Faith says  :  I am amazed how God puts events in place for His glory...I was certainly not anticipating managing SXSC this year...but through various circumstances I was asked & work has accommodated for leave (to a point)... & then we had God making the WA team [Fran and Geoff Usher] available when I ran out of leave.
